The film, presented through the eyes of Len Necefer, connects the struggles of the Gwich'in people with those of Necefer's own Navajo community, which recently faced threats to the Bears Ears National Monument. In drawing these parallels, the film highlights the long history of unwanted energy development negatively impacting Native communities. It also shows a promising new shift: the public's increased willingness raise their voice in solidarity with Native communities in support of public lands.

DIRECTOR'S BIOGRAPHY:
Len Necefer, Ph.D., is an assistant professor with joint appointments with the American Indian Studies program & the Udall Center for Public Policy. He holds a bachelor's of science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas & a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Engineering and Public Policy. His research focuses at the intersection of indigenous people and natural resource management policy. This has included work from energy and water issues in the lower 48 and Alaska to outdoor recreation management policy.

Greg Balkin, dog enthusiast and instigator of fun, is a photographer and filmmaker based in Seattle, WA. His work is centered around community, exploration, and stories from far off places that bring us closer together. In his spare time, Greg can be found exploring the Cascades, giving into peer pressure to swim in freezing alpine lakes, or quietly working on crosswords with some coffee. As of 2019, Greg has joined his friends at Wondercamp as co-producer and cinematographer. Together their mission is to continue sharing stories from around the world that ask hard questions and call people into greater adventure.
