We follow the people of Lofoten, in the Arctic Circle of Norway, as they battle the dramatic weather conditions, and The Arctic Philharmonic as they play the Philip Glass piece «Descent into the Maelstrom» based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe.

Jan Vardoen
DIRECTOR'S BIOGRAPHY:
Jan is a restauranteur, musician, writer and film director / producer at Beacon Isle Productions. He was born in London, he grew up in Southern Ireland and England. He has travelled extensively, living in USA, Canada, England and Catalonia for the most part. He has released 6 albums as a musician under the name Ian Senior. He is the author several books, fiction and non fiction. His formal training is as a wooden boat builder, which has been his family trade for many generations. Using these skills he has built and runs many of Oslo's most significant bars and restaurants. He restored and reopened the 1926 silent movie theatre Frogner Kino in 2019, and in 2018, he founded OSLO16 film center for independent film makers at Roverstaden. He is a keen participant and commentator of social issues in Norway.
